Vivo and iQOO are bringing a major visual and feature upgrade with OriginOS 7. The new version focuses on a more immersive design, smoother animations, better customization, improved dark mode and new interactive features.
OriginOS 7 is currently in beta, so some features may change before the stable release. The Chinese version also has more features than the current global beta version.
OriginOS 7 gets a new glassy visual style
One of the biggest changes in OriginOS 7 is the new Visual option. Users can choose between Soft, Natural and Realistic textures. Soft keeps a look close to OriginOS 6, while Natural adds a light glass effect. Realistic takes the glass design further across widgets, folders, the dock, quick settings, the power-off menu and lock screen shortcuts.
The update also adds more small animations across the system. Moving from the lock screen to the home screen now has a separating effect, while the transition to the Always On Display has a small sliding animation. Long-pressing apps creates a small pop-up effect, and the lock screen keypad gets a glow effect.
Dragging and holding elements can also create a bouncy animation. Some in-app buttons, such as the two or three-dot menus, now feature a small droplet-style effect. OriginOS 7 does not introduce new system fonts, however, and keeps the existing font options.
Dark Mode and home screen customization
Dark Mode receives a useful upgrade in OriginOS 7. A new icon effect option lets users choose between Light, Dim and Dark. The Dark option automatically adapts home screen icons to match the dark theme, including support for many third-party apps.
Vivo’s own app icons also receive more depth and shadow effects. Users can now resize apps directly on the home screen, giving them more control over the layout.
The Settings app has received smaller visual changes, including deeper-looking icons and thinner icons in the battery section. A new Immersive Home feature can also change the home screen according to the time of day, with lighter visuals during the day and darker visuals at night.
New lock screen, clock and sticker features
OriginOS 7 gives the lock screen more customization options. The clock can now be resized from all four corners instead of only from the bottom. More widgets can also be accessed by swiping down, including notes.
There are now six clock styles, including three new designs. The custom clock section also gets a thickness slider, while a separate clock font option brings the total number of clock fonts to three.
Users can also add stickers and initials to the lock screen. Up to eight stickers can be used at once, with four different layouts. Stickers can be freely moved, positioned and layered. Third-party stickers are supported as well.
Themes become more interactive
The Theme section has been redesigned with more 3D depth. Swiping up can reveal a deeper 3D effect on supported themes. OriginOS 7 also adds a Manage option that makes it easier to reapply, edit or remove recently used themes.
A new Wiggle feature lets themes react when users tap or move the phone. There are four theme options for this effect. The Flip Card feature from OriginOS 6 is also retained.
Another new addition is Glint. Supported themes can react with glitter-style effects when the phone is moved.
Pet Pals bring animated pets to the home screen
Pet Pals is one of the more playful additions in OriginOS 7. It places interactive pet-like characters, such as cats and dogs, on the home screen.
These characters react to different phone activities. They can look tired when the battery is low, become happy while the phone is charging and respond to taps or changes in the phone’s position. They can even move along with music playback.
Off-Screen replaces Always On Display
OriginOS 7 changes the name of Always On Display to Off-Screen. Full-screen AOD is now the default experience, with support for animated AOD designs for new pads and widgets.
Vivo is also working on showing delivery and flight information on the Off-Screen display. This feature is currently in beta and is not fully available yet.
Another useful feature is Photo Stickers. Users can drag photos from the Gallery directly onto the home screen. Photos can be resized and customized with borders and strokes.
Origin Workbench brings better multitasking
Origin Workbench is another major feature in OriginOS 7. It is designed for Vivo and iQOO phones with 12GB RAM or more and provides a new way to use multiple apps.
It can work in both vertical and horizontal layouts. A panel on the left shows supported apps, while the main area displays the selected content. Up to five apps can be used through the Workbench experience.
Testing on the Vivo X300 Pro showed smooth multitasking, although the feature is still in beta and may receive further improvements before the stable release.
More system app changes
The File Manager gets a cleaner visual design and also includes digital well-being features connected with Android 17. An iCloud option has also been added under the More section, which could make it easier to connect with Apple’s ecosystem.
The Clock app gets improved timer haptics and new sounds. The Recorder app receives small visual changes, while the Calculator gets additional depth effects. The Gallery app has a more minimal bottom section and a redesigned information area.
The Dialer app remains mostly familiar, but call icons are larger and have a more glass-like appearance. The Camera app and Ultra Game Mode do not receive major interface changes in this version.
Control Center and multitasking
The Control Center keeps the Separate and Merge options from the previous version. However, the blur effect has been improved, and users have more freedom to move and edit icons.
Volume and brightness sliders can also be customized. Connectivity categories make it easier to place related controls together.
The regular multitasking menu continues to offer Stack and Simple layouts. A new screen mirroring option has also been added to the three-dot menu.
OriginOS 7 aims for a smoother experience
OriginOS 7 also focuses on performance. App opening and closing animations feel faster, while overall UI movement is designed to be smoother. Since the current version is still in beta, Vivo is expected to make additional changes before the stable release.
